Press & Journal: Campaign launched urging rethink on Inverness bypass exclusion

A campaign was launched yesterday to persuade the Scottish Government to reconsider its decision not to fund a bypass to ease congestion in Inverness.

The bypass – linking the A9 Inverness-Perth road at Inshes to the A82 Fort William-Inverness road at Torvean – was excluded from the government’s strategic transport projects review, which was announced in December 2008.

Inverness Courier: Pressure mounts over bypass deadlock

TWO leading political figures have increased pressure on transport minister Stewart Stevenson to break the political and financial deadlock holding up completion of the Inverness by-pass.

City MP Danny Alexander is urging the minister to rethink his decision to treat the project – linking the A9, the A96 and the A82 – as two separate schemes. Such a move would ultimately pave the way for Scottish Government funding for the entire project.

Inverness Courier: Pressure mounts for explanation of assessment documents

MINISTERS are coming under increasing pressure to explain why a decision to reject the long-awaited Inverness bypass was apparently made prior to a full assessment of the project being completed.

Comments added to an early appraisal of the scheme suggest it had already been decided not to include it in the government’s transport programme, despite initial evidence indicating the project scored highly against set criteria.
